In my dream I had inherited a farm. I decided that I would do my best to make it prosperous. When I arrived at the farm, it was quite run down and the farm hands were all eerily distant. They seemed hagered and thin. They didn't really respond to my directions. The sky was gray and gloomy. As we worked, the day wore on and night fell. That was when it started to feel frightening. The farm hands started to be even more unstable and all simultaneously stared into the middle distance with terrified expressions repeating the phrase "it's night, they're coming." I ran inside the farmhouse to get my shot gun and when I returned, I saw a large group of great-dane sized possums silently charging out of a darkened treeline on the edge of my property. They began chasing our horses and eating the ones they could catch. I shot at them with my gun, but they were unnaturally hearty and shrugged off most of the blasts. When morning finally came we had lost a number of animals to the huge possums and I finally understood why the farm hands were so strange - they were terrified. Fortunately, the possums were more interested in eating animals than people, but I knew they were capable of inflicting some serious harm and felt like taking care of this farm was going to be nearly impossible.
Dreams can often reflect our subconscious fears and anxieties. In this dream, the farm symbolizes a responsibility or project that you have taken on. It represents your desire to make something successful and prosperous. However, upon arriving at the farm and seeing its rundown state, it shows that you feel overwhelmed and unprepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
The eerie and distant farm hands signify a lack of support or assistance in your waking life. They may represent feelings of isolation or being surrounded by people who are unable to help or understand you. Their haggard and thin appearance suggests that you feel drained and exhausted by the demands of this project.
As night falls and the atmosphere becomes frightening, it reflects your growing sense of fear and unease about the situation. The repeated phrase "it's night, they're coming" indicates a sense of impending danger or threat that you cannot escape. This could symbolize your fear of failure or the unknown.
The appearance of the large possums represents hidden or overlooked obstacles that are causing harm to your progress. They are larger-than-life, symbolizing the magnitude of these challenges. Your attempts to confront these obstacles with your shotgun represent your determination and efforts to overcome them, but their resilience suggests that they are not easily defeated.
The loss of animals to the possums underscores the sacrifices and setbacks you may encounter in your endeavors. The terror of the farm hands and their inability to cope with the situation highlight your own feelings of inadequacy and the daunting nature of the task at hand.
Overall, this dream suggests that you may be struggling with a difficult project or responsibility in your waking life. It reflects your anxieties about facing obstacles and the fear of failing. However, it is important to remember that dreams are symbolic and subjective, and only you can truly interpret the personal meaning behind the dream.
