There was a group of us in a happy place, surrounded by fields and ponds, near a larger lake. After a bit of time we noticed a few movements on the water. Boats, things, birds and some people would go missing in these "movements". We noticed more and more that these patches were consuming more things and getting larger, and moving around. They didn't have a rhythm or seem to have a plan. Just aimlessly moving and consuming things in their path. We realised we had to get to higher ground to avoid being consumed by the patches. After climbing up a cliff face, over time we settled there. Building platforms for safety and shelter. The patches kept moving though. We avoided them but couldn't escape them.
