I’m 31, I graduated high school 11 years ago, I have a bachelors degree and I have a full time job. My high school years were very unpleasant and almost traumatic. I struggle with inattentive adhd and I had a hard time being friends with people and my academics were a struggle. I’ve been having frequent dreams where for some reason I’m being required to go back to high school, yet everyone my age is forced to go back as well. Usually the school is in a different town and building than the one I graduated from, one time I had a dream where the school was a very tall building and I had to use these spiral stairs to go up to the highest tower to go to a small class room. There’s times I have to go back to my old high school but it looks different, I’ll be talking classes and doing homework but then I’m like “ screw this, I have a full time job, I’m going to work.”
Based on the information provided, the dream of being required to go back to high school could symbolize unresolved emotions and insecurities related to your past experiences in high school. It may represent feelings of being unprepared or inadequate in certain aspects of your life, despite your current accomplishments.
The dreams where the school is in a different town or building could suggest a sense of unfamiliarity or disconnection from your past. This could reflect a desire for a fresh start or a need to distance yourself from the negative memories associated with high school.
The dream of having to climb spiral stairs to reach a small classroom in a tall building may symbolize the challenges and difficulties you may face in achieving your goals. It could also indicate the need to overcome obstacles or setbacks in order to progress in your personal or professional life.
The conflicting emotions of wanting to prioritize work over going back to high school in the dream may reflect a struggle to break free from past insecurities and move forward with confidence. It could imply a desire to focus on your current success and accomplishments rather than being held back by past experiences.
Overall, these recurrent dreams may be a manifestation of unresolved emotions and insecurities from your high school years, as well as a reflection of your current struggle to find balance between your past and present. It may be helpful to explore these emotions further and consider seeking support or therapy to process and heal from any lingering trauma or self-doubt.
